Home Prints About Paula Jolly

I am a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Fine Arts.  After putting my energy and creativity into being a full time Mom for a number of years I recently began drawing again. I have worked with other materials in the past, but I am currently working with Prismacolor pencils on Canson Mi-Teintes papers.

My drawings are primarily a way to share my faith and often focus on the themes of love, grace, service and sacrifice. Many of them feature images of Jesus. Because I have used many different models, Jesus may look different from one picture to the next. Since there are no contemporary pictures or descriptions of Christ, I use familiar and traditional types of images to try to convey His character, rather than trying to guess what a first century Jewish man from Galilee may have really looked like. I also like to use hands in my drawings. I feel hands can be nearly as expressive as the face but leave more room for the viewer's own imagination.

I have sold prints of my work through a local Christian bookstore and also at my church to benefit the outreach ministry. I also have done commissioned portraits of people and pets.
